A BattGrade certificate is a PDF that records the condition of an electric car's high voltage battery on the day it was tested. It gives the State of Health, meaning how much of its original capacity the battery still has, together with the method behind that number and how precise it is. It also gives a grade (A from 85%, B from 70%, C from 55%, D from 40%, F below 40%), any warning signs such as uneven cells or a suspected BMS reset, and the name of the inspector who ran the test. The score is calculated by BattGrade's server from the raw vehicle data, so neither the inspector nor the seller can type it in, and the certificate is digitally signed, so any change would show. Scan the QR code or enter the certificate ID at battgrade.com/verify to see the live record. Each certificate is valid for 6 months. BattGrade is a private company, not a government body or an accredited test lab.
Every BattGrade certificate is cryptographically signed when it is issued. The signature is generated from the exact battery data and stamped with the algorithm version used to score it. When you open this page, we recompute the hash of the certificate's contents and check it against the signature on file. A green banner means the data has not been altered since issuance and the certificate is genuine. Our public keys are published at battgrade.com/api/certificates/keys, so anyone can check a signature independently.
State of Health (SoH) is the usable energy or capacity of the battery today, as a percentage of what the same battery variant offered when new. Depending on the car, it comes from the full-charge energy, from the capacity in amp-hours or from the value the battery management system reports. The certificate names the method and gives an uncertainty band in points. Cell voltages and temperatures feed the checks shown on the certificate, not the SoH itself.
The grade comes from the SoH rounded to 0.1, with the same bands for every make: A from 85%, B from 70% to 84.9%, C from 55% to 69.9%, D from 40% to 54.9%, and F below 40%. The grade is derived from the score and is never assigned by hand.
No. BattGrade is a private company, not a government body and not an accredited test lab. What we stand behind is how the number is made: the score is calculated and signed by our server from the data read from the car, nobody can type it in or change it, and the certificate shows who ran the test.
