Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated 4 October 2026

1. Scope

This policy is part of the BattGrade Terms of Service. It applies to every account and to everyone who uses one. A breach of this policy is a breach of the Terms of Service.

2. Tests and vehicles

You may not:

  • test a vehicle without the permission of its owner or keeper, or another lawful right;
  • issue a certificate for a vehicle you did not test, or for a vehicle other than the one you tested;
  • enter a VIN, an odometer reading or vehicle details that you know or suspect to be wrong, or type a VIN by hand when the vehicle reports one;
  • reset, alter or manipulate the battery management system or any control unit of a vehicle to change a result, or hide such a manipulation that you are aware of;
  • run a test in unsafe conditions or against the vehicle manufacturer's instructions.

3. Data and certificate integrity

You may not:

  • fabricate, edit, replay or combine raw data, or send data from another vehicle, a simulator or the demo mode as a real test;
  • modify the app, intercept or alter its traffic, or call our API in ways the app does not, in order to influence a result;
  • try to forge, copy or reuse a certificate signature, to extract our signing keys, or to make an altered certificate look genuine;
  • edit a certificate PDF, or present a revoked, expired or altered certificate as valid.

4. Accounts, limits and security

You may not:

  • share sign-in details, or let people outside your business use your account;
  • create accounts to get around limits, a suspension or the terms of your plan;
  • get around rate limits or other technical limits, or overload the service;
  • scan, scrape or collect verification pages, or try certificate IDs at random;
  • probe or test our systems for vulnerabilities without our written permission (please report vulnerabilities to [email protected]);
  • upload malware, or a logo or company name that infringes someone's rights, is offensive or imitates another business.

5. How certificates are presented

You may not:

  • present a certificate as an official inspection, a government document, a warranty, a valuation or a promise of range;
  • claim to be BattGrade, or claim that BattGrade endorses or employs you;
  • use certificates to deceive a buyer, a lender, an insurer or anyone else, or for any fraud.

6. Lawful use

You may not use BattGrade in breach of the law, including data protection law, consumer protection law and applicable sanctions.

7. Reporting misuse

If you think a certificate is false, or that BattGrade is being misused, use “Report a problem” on the certificate's verification page, or write to [email protected] with the certificate ID and what you noticed.

8. What we do

We may investigate, ask you for information, revoke certificates, suspend or close the account, and inform the people affected or the authorities where the law requires or allows it. We act in proportion to the seriousness of the breach, and we tell you the reasons unless the law prevents it or it would compromise an investigation.
